Best bets for the weekend

The best bests for this weekend include the Happy Trails Festival and Chili Chase 5K Trail Run & Cook-off on Saturday and the Durango Autumn Arts Festival on Saturday and Sunday.

To celebrate the trails and community in Durango, Trails 2000 will host the second annual Happy Trails Festival from 11 a.m. 5 p.m. Saturday at Buckley Park, 1250 Main Ave. The event will feature local music, beer, food, kids activities, Todd’s Durango Dirt Fondo mountain bike ride and a group training-run for the upcoming Durango Double.

Also Saturday, San Juan Mountains Association will hold the annual Chili Chase trail run and cook-off fundraiser at Backcountry Experience, 1205 Camino del Rio. Run registration begins at 8:30 a.m., at Backcountry Experience; the 5K trail run is at 10 a.m. from Iris Park; and a chili cook-off, with more than 20 chili recipes from local organizations and businesses, starts at 11 a.m., in the Backcountry Experience parking lot.

On Saturday and Sunday, the family and pet-friendly Durango Autumn Arts Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on East Second Avenue from College Drive to Ninth Street. Artists from across the country will showcase fine art and crafts during the two-day festival.

Entertainment will include DAC Applause, Ka Pa Hula I Na Mauna, iAm Music, Six Dollar String Band, Sweetwater Station, The Lost Souls, Wasibi Wabi, Soul What, Durangatones, Groove Casters, the Stillwater Music faculty and Hello, Dollface. Food and beverages will include Bounty for the Belly, Ragtime Kettle Corn, Tom Katz Lemonade and a beer and wine tent supplied by DAC.
